By her late twenties, Ms. Michelle Shen has established quite a rewarding career in information technology. In year 1998, while Ms. Shen was still in her undergraduate study, she successfully completed prototyping of a fingerprint biometric technology based on a proprietary biometric algorithm Tsinghua University sourced from North Korea. She then pushed the prototyping into commercialization, and helped Polymath Technology Ltd. become the largest biometric market player in China. That was all done long before biometrics received higher visibility from the events of 9/11. Upon graduating from her dual degrees (B.Sc. Comp Sci & B.A. Econ), fortunately, Ms. Shen caught the last train of the dot-com-boom, and was recruited by Dell Computer Asia Pacific, headquartered in Penang, Malaysia, as a Server Product Specialist. Despite the collapse of the dot-com era, Ms. Shen maintained the momentum of her career, and tapped into new areas. For example, in 1999, Ms. Shen secured A-Round venture capital funding for a biometric project in her Nortel-contracted company. Also, in 2000, Ms. Shen branched into project management at Foresters, the 5th largest insurance company in North America. In early 2000, while she tried every effort to synchronize her career interests with that of the insurance company she worked for, she felt that she needed greater challenge. She was then admitted into the Canada's Top-3 ranked MBA School- the Schulich School of Business at York University as a part-time MBA student. The interactive MBA program helped Ms. Shen to step out of her "ISTJ" Analyst Type of comfort zone (as per the Myers Briggs Personality Test) to become a better "people" person and more adept in her understanding of business management. In January of 2003, she left Foresters to join Oracle Corporation, the world's largest enterprise software company, as a Business Development Consultant. By talking to C-Level executives, understanding their business pains and needs, as well as designing & launching marketing campaigns, Ms. Shen generated $14 M USD of sales pipeline within one year, of which $2.3 M USD led to closed businesses. She was awarded Top Performer three times within her first year with Oracle, and was promoted to a Senior Business Development Consultant after eight months of employment. Confident in taking up more challenges, Ms. Shen was promoted to an Account Manager in May 2004, and in that role, she covers Canada's largest federal and provincial accounts. She was nominated as the Top Revenue Account Manager, and was promoted to a Senior Account Manager after only 5 months into her new role with Oracle, which set a record within Oracle Canada, being the first employee to be promoted within such a short timeframe. She was awarded 8 times during her fiscal year 2005, among which some of them represented the highest award in Oracle North America Sales Organization, for example, Sales Rep of the Year 2005. To this day, Ms. Shen continues to show passion and a positive attitude in both her career and personal life. She is always eager to test her abilities and looks for new opportunities to utilize her many skills and talents. |
